For landscape owners doing $1M to $5M a year with crews in the field

Your trucks are full. Your guys are busy. So why isn't there more in the bank?

Book a Profit Leak Fix Review. You leave with one page. It shows what a company your size should bring in and what you really keep. It shows the one price you should bid from. And it shows the three leaks that eat the difference.

Be honest

Sound familiar?

Doodle: a tired owner doing estimates at the kitchen table at 11 pm
  • You do estimates at 11 pm. It's the only time the phone stops ringing.

  • You win 8 out of 10 bids, and you're kind of proud of it. (If you win 8 of 10, your prices are too low.)

  • It's 6:45 and three guys are just rolling back into the shop. The job would have been there tomorrow. Now you're paying them $39 an hour for it, not $26.

  • The customer "adds a couple things." Your crew stays four extra hours, and you eat the cost to keep the account.

  • Every receipt goes on one card. The accountant sorts it out in January. You find out what you made in April.

  • If you're not in the yard at 6:15 loading trucks, the day falls apart. So you haven't had a real vacation in years.

You have plenty of work. The problem is your numbers, and you can fix those.

Here's what the review finds

The Profit Leak Fix Review

What you get from the review

Doodle: a tall bar for your goal, a short bar for you, and the gap between them
1

Your revenue gap

A maintenance company should bring in about $175,000 a year for each field worker. For landscape and install, it's about $200,000. I talk to hundreds of owners a year, and those numbers hold. So 25 guys doing $3M should be doing $4.3M or more. We start with that gap.

Doodle: a meter filled only to 8%, with a mark at 10% and the best shops at 18%
2

What you really keep

Most owners tell me they keep 20 to 30%. When we look, it's 8%. You'll see your number next to two marks. 10% is the least you should keep. 18% is what the best-run shops in the network keep.

Doodle: labor, overhead, gear, and taxes stacked with profit on top make your price
3

Your price per man‑hour

This is the price that pays for all of it. That's labor, overhead, hours you can't bill, new gear, insurance, and taxes. Then profit goes on top. What the guy down the road charges doesn't matter. This is your number, and your estimator bids every job from it.

Doodle: a bucket of profit leaking through holes for overtime, bids, mornings, and scope
4

Your three biggest leaks, in dollars per month

Think slow mornings loading trucks, or overtime that gets no work done. Think jobs that grow while the price stays the same, or mowers paid for out of savings when your bids should have paid for them. It's never one big thing. It's a lot of small holes in the bucket, and they drain it.

Try it now

Run the first number yourself

I do this math on every call. Put in your crew size and last year's gross.

Most of your work is
Your crew should bring in$1,750,000
You brought in$1,000,000
The gap$750,000

That's number one of four. The other three take 30 minutes and your real numbers.

Simple

How it works

  1. Doodle: a phone form you finish in 2 minutes

    Apply in 2 minutes

Give your name and cell, and answer three quick questions. Then pick a time.

  2. Doodle: your one-page sheet with a pencil and a calculator

I run your numbers before we talk

You give me a few numbers when you book. I build your one-page sheet the day before.

  3. Doodle: two people going over the sheet together in 30 minutes

We go over the sheet together in 30 minutes

We look at where you stand and where the money goes. Then we pick what to fix first. If it makes sense to keep working together, I'll tell you how the Profit Leak Fix works. If not, you still keep the sheet.

Who does the review

I'm Jim Wertz.

I started my landscape company at 19 and ran it for 35 years in Altoona, PA. We did installs, hardscape, and snow. I hired hundreds of guys.

In my twenties I hurt my back. Twelve workers showed up at the shop, and nobody knew what to do. That's the day I started building systems, so I didn't have to be the system.

Those systems let me take my family to Florida for 15 days each February. That's the middle of plow season. They also let me retire at 52.

Now I run the 7 Figure Landscape Network. It's a small group of owners doing $1M to $5M, across the U.S. and Canada. We take about 20 companies at a time. I do one thing: I help landscape companies make more money.

I don't care what you gross. I care what you keep.

30 minutes with Jim. You keep the sheet either way.

My promise

If I can't find at least $50,000 in profit leaks in your review, I won't take you on.

I'd rather you keep your money than pay me for what you already know.

Quick check

Is this a fit for you?

This is for you if

  • You run a landscape company doing $1M to $5M, with crews in the field.
  • You have plenty of work, but not enough of it ends up in the bank.
  • You're ready to look at your real numbers with someone who ran crews.

This is not for you if

  • You want more leads. You already have enough work, and that's the point.
  • You make under $1M, or it's just you and a helper. Come back when you have crews.
  • You want a pep talk, a course, or a Facebook trick. I don't sell those.
  • You won't look at your real numbers. Then the review can't help you.

Questions owners ask

Is this a sales call?

It's a review call, and you get the sheet either way. If I see that the Profit Leak Fix would pay for itself, I'll say so and tell you the price. If not, I'll tell you that too.

What do I need to have ready?

Bring last year's gross, how many guys you run in season, and about what you took home. If you have a price per man‑hour, bring that too. If you don't have one, that tells me something.

I'm slammed. When should I do this?

Now. The leaks show up in season, when the trucks are rolling. That's when you can see them and fix them. Winter is quiet because nothing is going on.

Who's on the call?

Me. Bring your wife, your partner, or whoever runs the office. They already know where the money goes.

Last step

You don't need more hustle. You need to know your number.

  • Four numbers you don't have today
  • I build it before the call, from numbers you already know
  • You keep it, even if we don't work together
